“THE LIGHT SHINES IN DARKNESS”

SCRIPTURE READING: John 1:1-5
MEMORY VERSE:
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. – Matthew 5:14
A story is told of a young man who complained of the worse environment and the hostile people he lived with. He decided to leave that area for a new friendly environment where people would see his Christian virtues and the light in him. This is what his Counsellor had to say: ‘The light in you even shines brightest in the darkest parts of your habitation’.
A light produces direction and a bearing especially for those in darkness. The true light has always prevailed and subdued the darkness. The light shines best when it confronts the darkness, so must the light in us which symbolises all the good virtues and characteristics of the Christian life outshine every darkness both within and without us.
Like the Counsellor told the young man we must cease every opportunity where we find ourselves to shine out the darkness and show others the way.
FOR MEDITATION:
Does my light shine best even in the darkness?
PRAYER:
Lord, give me oil in my lamp to keep me burning every day.
THOUGHT:
The light has power over the darkness
