SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Peter 3: 10-18
“Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you be? You ought to live Holy and Godly lives…” – 2 Peter 3:11
At the time of writing there was a cloud of ash spewed out of a volcano in Iceland, covering large parts of Europe. This pall of ash has grounded many planes causing the loss of millions of dollars to the airlines and other related industries. This is the effect of just one volcano.
The scenario that apostle Peter describes will be a thousand times worse and more terrifying. There is enough fire in the bowels of the earth to melt our planet many times over.
Even without God causing some supernatural happening to destroy the world, the armies of the world have enough nuclear arsenals to pulverize our world into nothingness. Peter warns all who care to listen that there is a day coming when all things will end in sudden violent cataclysm, when God’s wrath will be poured on a wicked unrepentant world.
He also cautions that in view of the terror of the Day of the Lord all believers should lead blameless and spotless lives, at peace with God and man. The Day of the Lord is surely coming.
• What signs in the world indicate that the Day of the Lord is imminent?
• Am I prepared for that day?
Dear Lord, count me among the number, when Your saints go home. Amen.
Knowing the terror of the LORD we persuade men
