“MORIAH – A FORESHADOW OF CALVARY”

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 22:1-13
MEMORY VERSE:
Abraham answered “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”- Genesis 22:8 (NIV)
The testing of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, was the hardest ever recorded in the Bible. At the time God spoke to Abraham concerning the sacrifice, Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. But God said “Isaac, your son, your ONLY SON…offer him as a burnt offering on the mount I will tell you about.”
If it were Ishmael, it might have been easier. After all, Ishmael came into his life by mistake by listening to Sarah his wife. The conception and birth of Ishmael had brought trouble into the family and he had to get rid of him. Isaac was the promised son, the ONLY SON, and Abraham loved him.
Did Abraham hear God clearly? Why did he not discuss the issue with his wife Sarah? Why did Abraham not open up to Isaac that he was going to sacrifice him? And when the boy Isaac wanted to know how and where his father could get a lamb in that place of isolation Abraham replied “God will provide!”
There are many lessons for the believer. Conviction of what you have received from the Lord may not concern others. They may become hindrances to you. Sarah would have made noise. Isaac would have made noise and refused to go along with his father.
God did provide His OWN LAMB! At Moriah, God stopped the hand of Abraham from slaying Isaac. But at Calvary the real action took place. Jesus became the LAMB of God slain to take away the sins of the world. (John 1:29).  To Him alone be adoration.
FOR MEDITATION:
How do I value the death of Jesus on the cross at Calvary?
PRAYER:
Thank You God that You did not prevent the death of Jesus. He has become our salvation. Amen.
THOUGHT:
Jesus; the only Saviour of the world!
