SCRIPTURE READING: Galatians 5:16-24
“So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” – Galatians 5:16
The apostle Paul reminds us over and over again that we inherited a fallen nature from our first parents.
This nature is hostile to God and produces in us desires and propensities that are also contrary to the nature of God. Our old nature is fired by the enemy and the world to work to our ruin.
To conquer these desires of the flesh and to prevent ourselves from walking according to its dictates, Paul prescribes that we “live by the spirit.” How do we live by the spirit?
When we are born again the Holy Spirit comes to indwell us and begins the work of sanctification and inner cleansing. In this exercise the Holy Spirit needs the cooperation of the believer to work the transformation into Christ likeness.
As we dedicate ourselves more to prayer, reading and meditating on the word, fellowshipping with other believers and watching our lives, we become transformed more and more into the image of Christ. Daily adherence to these spiritual exercises aids our spiritual walk.
• What does it mean to live by the Spirit?
• Am I living by the Spirit?
Dear Lord, help me to live by the Spirit, so that I may not fulfil the desires of the flesh.
If you want to grow read your Bible, pray everyday
