Learn To Take A Cue

FOR READING: Daniel 5: 17-31

“You have set yourself up against the Lord of Heaven… but you did not honour the God who holds in His hand your life and all your ways” – Daniel 5:23a (NIV)

“You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means”. (Verse 17) These were the words of Daniel when King Belshazzar had him hard by his door.

Ananias and Sapphira joined the church in the days when the apostles were working miracles. Judas Iscariot was a chosen companion of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. But they all sinned when they rejected the light and knowledge of the living God. They were all suddenly destroyed without remedy. They had no time or space for repentance.

Ryle, a writer, states that “as they lived, so they died; as they were, so they hurried away to meet God. They went with all their sins upon them, unpardoned, unrenewed, and utterly unfit for Heaven.”

Oh that we would be wise! Oh that we would consider our latter end! There is a LOVE in God towards sinners, which is unspeakable and unsearchable; but it is for those who hear Christ’s voice and follow Him. Let us seek an interest in that love. Let us break off every known sin, come out boldly from the world and cry mightily to God in prayer. Let us cast ourselves wholly and unreservedly on the Lord Jesus for time and eternity, and lay aside every weight.

Let us cling to nothing which interferes with our soul’s salvation and or comes between us and Heaven.

• Is my life right with God’s Word?
• Do I have secret sins in my life?

Lord Jesus, give me the grace not to be lured by the world to miss Heaven. Amen.

Repentance not only regrets sins, but also renounces it.
