“FREEDOM IN CHRIST”

SCRIPTURE READING: Galatians 5:1-15
MEMORY VERSE:
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use freedom to indulge in sinful nature; rather serve one another in love. – Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
Reading through the Old Testament, one would find many laws God gave the Israelites. These laws and decrees were so many that they were difficult to remember, let alone obey them.
Circumcision as law was a covenant between God and the descendants of Abraham (Genesis 17:11). It was this covenant that separated Israel from the other nations. In 1 Samuel 17:26, David called Goliath an uncircumcised Philistine.
The death and resurrection of Jesus has brought us all together. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor un-circumcision has any value. The circumcision God decreed to Abraham was a spiritual one, the circumcision of the heart.
Believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior gives you spiritual circumcision. So you become a covenant child. Believer, it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. We need therefore to stand firm and not let ourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
May His grace open our eyes to see Him better.
MEDITATION:
Do I still hold on to traditions that do not glorify God?
PRAYER:
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for giving us spiritual circumcision that has brought us closer to You. Amen.
THOUGHT:
Only Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, can declare guilty people perfect.
