“BEARING THE FRUIT OF REPENTANCE”

FOR READING: Luke 3:7-14
MEMORY VERSE:
Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. –  Luke 3:8a (NIV)
The rate at which churches are being filled daily with new arrivals should thrill anyone concerned with salvation of souls.
Knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour is a step in the right direction. The Bible says angels in Heaven rejoice over one sinner who turns to Christ.
The disciples and the converts were called Christians first at Antioch (Acts 11:26) just because their behaviour and way of life resembled that of Christ. I believe that one person can make a difference in any society.  Anti-social behaviour and crimes being committed in and around the world involve to a large extent, those who go to church.
One wonders if it is repentance that is making people go to church and in many cases confess Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
So it was in the days of John the Baptist. And he warned those who came over to be baptized to bear the fruit of repentance.
Christianity does not compromise sin.  God declares we should be holy as He is holy. If believers denounce the “everybody is doing it” attitude and dare to be different, the fruit they bear would feed the world with the life of Jesus.
May His grace make us shun evil practices.
FOR MEDITATION:
What are people sensing about me, at my work place, school, and the family and in the house of God?
PRAYER:
More like the Master I would live and grow, more of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee, more like the Master I long to ever be – Gabriel.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
My life helps paint my neighbour’s picture of God.
